Meet the neighbours

projects broker grass roots engagement between Scotland and Nordic Countries

Our projects address the simple proposition that communities across Scotland and Nordic Countries are interwoven and co-dependent.

Joy is radical

There has never been a more important time for people in Scotland to reach out to Nordic communities to share ideas, creative projects and initiatives. Meet the Neighbours brokers partnerships and brings these initiatives to life ensuring maximum community outcome.

All negotiations should be conducted over a garden fence.

These projects serve as a mechanism to help realise the potential in both artist and local people.

Meet the neighbours at iceland airwaves

Meet the Neighbours has held two collaborative showcase events in Reykjavik celebrating the cultural and geopolitical links between Scotland and Iceland.

On both occasions something memorable happened: a gathering of Scottish and Icelandic bands, DJs and manifesto scribes turned Lucky Records into a hub of good vibes, unity and bad language.

Haiver, Oyama, Cowboy Hunters, Lizzie Reid, Jacob Alon, Flesh Machine and No Windows spread the word.

Move On and Reykjavik Youth Exchange

Change happens most effectively when it occurs at the edges of an infrastructure. It is here that new ideas become established, long before the people at the top are even aware they exist. We believe that young voices can bring about the most positive change.

In September 2025 Meet the Neighbours organised a two-day exchange between young people in Reykjavik and the Scottish based youth engagement charity, Move On. This was an opportunity to share a youth focused Skills and Employability programme, which was developed in Scotland, with our colleagues in Reykjavik.

Under the supervision of a Scottish production team, the young people received training in filming techniques, and created a video archive of the event.

It’s in me somewhere, I didn’t realise until I saw it.

You need to hear that there’s more of us than them.
You need to hear that we don’t agree.
You need to hear that we aren’t going away

Some of our greatest creativity
is borne out of remoteness.
